Youth

Welcome to the Jordan Lacrosse Youth Program:

Lacrosse, considered to be America’s first sport, was born of the North American Indian, christened by the French, and adapted and raised by the Canadians. Modern lacrosse has been embraced by athletes and enthusiasts of the United States and the British Commonwealth for over a century.

The sport of lacrosse is a combination of basketball, soccer and hockey. Anyone can play lacrosse — the big or the small. The game requires and rewards coordination and agility, not brawn. Quickness and speed are two highly prized qualities in lacrosse. (US Lacrosse Association Website)

Step #2: Equipment:

Girls and boys lacrosse are different games and require different equipment.

Girls:

Girl lacrosse players will need eye protection and a stick because there is no body contact allowed. Also, it is a good idea to wear cleats, but it is not required. The eye protection can be rented anytime at the Utah Lacrosse Association (check their website for hours of operation, they are not always open).

Boys:

The boys do allow contact, it is gradual and the young boys have very little contact. However, boys lacrosse requires more safety gear. Each player will need: helmet, mouth guard, shoulder pads, arm pads/elbow pads, gloves, cleats. You do not need to purchase new cleats if you have football or soccer cleats. Some baseball cleats are also legal, but most are not. (no metal “spikes”)

Renting equipment: The safety gear (not sticks) can be rented at the Utah Lacrosse Association on March 17th for $55. They have run out every year and we encourage you to show up early and wait in line. This is a great option for parents who want to see if a child will like the sport before they invest in safety equipment.

New Equipment: If you want to purchase equipment we have a lacrosse store in our area called Tribal West and one not far away call Face-Off Lacrosse. Also, don’t forget the sports stores like Sport Authority and Big 5.Don’t forget to look on KSL and check Play-it-Again-Sam for used equipment.

Step #3: Team Fees:

We are required to wear pinnies for games, but this year we are going to have the boys wearing shooter shirts and shorts that are maroon so we look like a team. So, the team fee of $35.00 includes the cost of a shooter shirt and shorts for each child, plus the purchasing of equipment, end of year party and costs to run the program. Please pay your team fees here and make sure you indicate your child’s size. Please have your team fees paid before March 26th.
